Fike High School has suspended its athletic director and girls head soccer coach.
Amber Lynch, public information director for Wilson County Schools, said the suspension “is a personnel matter that is still being investigated, and the details are confidential.”
The suspension affects coach Toni Varacchi, who is in her 23rd season leading the Fike High School Lady Demons. Varacchi is also the Fike athletic director, a position she has held since 2010.
The administrative action sidelined Varacchi from a game at Northern Nash on March 29, and will affect games at Hunt today and Southern Nash on Thursday.
Ken and Kelly Barnes, parents of Parker Barnes, a ninth-grade player on the team, raised objections to how their daughter was treated during a March 26 practice.
Assistant coaches for the team, Chris Mizelle and Larry Crocker, who were present at the time of the March 26 drill, have not been suspended.
