There has been a change to Friday’s schedule in the seventh annual Wilson Tobs High School Varsity Baseball Classic, said Mike Bell, the general manager of the summer collegiate baseball franchise.
The 2:30 p.m. opening game between Greenfield School and Wilson Christian Academy and the 5 p.m. game between Rosewood and Wake County Warriors homeschool team have been postponed. However, Wilson Christian will host Greenfield at 3 p.m. on Friday.
The 7:30 p.m. Varsity Classic game between Nash Central and Perquimans County has been moved to 7 p.m. at Fleming
All four of Saturday’s Varsity Classic games are still on the same schedule. Fike will take on Hillsborough Orange at 1 p.m. while Hunt will face Perquimans County in the finale at 6 p.m. Saturday’s opening game pits Cardinal Gibbons against Greenville Rose at 10:30 a.m. with D.H. Conley squaring off against West Johnston at 3:30 p.m.
Bell said that overnight rains caused problems with the field at Fleming being ready for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch on Friday. Because Wilson Christian was already scheduled to plan North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A East Region opponent Fuquay-Varina Hilltop Christian at 6 p.m. Friday, there was no chance of pushing back the game against Greenfield.
So the Chargers and Knights decided to move their game scheduled for April 8 at Wilson Christian to this afternoon at 3.
Bell said that Rosewood was forced to make up a 1-A Carolina Conference game against North Duplin tonight so the Golden Eagles had to withdraw from today’s Varsity Classic game.
However, Bell said that he is trying to reschedule a second chance for the Varsity Classic in early April that would feature Greenfield and Wilson Christian playing a junior varsity game, followed by a varsity game with Rosewood and Wake County Warriors returning to make up their game in the nightcap.
