Junior Jackson Stone put away his 16th goal of the season Wednesday night, but it wasn’t nearly enough to lift the Greenfield School varsity boys soccer team to victory Wednesday night, with visiting Clayton handing the Knights a 6-1 loss on Forbes Field.
Trailing 4-0, Stone’s tally off an assist from freshman William Smith in the 46th minute was the only scoring for the Knights (5-7-1), defending North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A champions.
Junior goalkeeper Luke Flaherty was credited with 12 saves for Greenfield, which plays its second straight game against a public school opponent Friday versus Eastern Wayne back at Forbes Field.
