So far, so good for the Greenfield School varsity boys basketball team.

After ending the first quarter of Thursday’s season opener with the Raleigh Hawks by jumping out to a 10-point lead, the Knights took their transition game to another level in the second quarter, outpacing the Hawks 23-4 in that span en route to an 83-41 victory.

Senior Coby White, who officially signed with the University of North Carolina on Wednesday, led the way with 32 points. White also handed out 14 assists. Classmate Elijah McCadden, who confirmed his intent to attend Georgia Southern, added 29 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the 1-A Knights of the 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference.

“Our transition was great,” Greenfield head coach Rob Salter said. “We really set the tone defensively.”

Junior Bryson Baker helped spark the Knights’ deluge in the second quarter, accounting for nine points. Baker knocked down a pair of 3-point field goals in that span.

Will McGrath led the Hawks, a homeschool program, with 20 points.

Greenfield plays host to Raleigh Ravenscroft on Wednesday.
