Harvetta Lucas of Wilson passed away Aug. 6, 2018 at Wilson Medical Center, following a courageous fight with cancer.

Harvetta was born Dec. 29, 1963 in Columbus, Georgia, where she was also raised.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Annie Ruth Lucas; and her loving pet and companion, Major Lucas.

She graduated from Hardaway High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice at Columbus State University.

She worked at Tri-County Industries and OIC Family Medical Center. Harvetta was an honorary member of Project Hope Ministries Community Outreach Ministry in Rocky Mount and loved helping others and seeing their lives changed for the better.

Harvetta was a faithful member of Truth Tabernacle Ministries, where she sang in the choir even when her health declined.

A service celebrating her life was conducted by Bishop Haywood Parker on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018.

She is survived by her son, Joie Lucas (Alexis) of Charleston, South Carolina; her daughter, Javohnia Lucas of the home; granddaughter, Jada Lucas; her spiritual parents, Everett and Shirley Yates; and her lifelong friend, Lorie Daniels of Fort Washington, Maryland; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, doctors and extended family.
