MIDDLESEX — Staff members at the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home are planning a fun Christmas for the residents and children in foster care.

Sponsorship of a child there with a $100 donation will help with the expenses of on-campus and off-campus activities as well as Christmas gifts for the kids, said Carrie Brown, development associate.

Since the early years of the children’s home, there have been many forms of sponsorship, including churches and church auxiliaries who sponsored a child every year, paying for such things as back-to-school clothes and birthday presents, she said.

Brown said the $100 sponsorships enable staff to provide the kids with a happy Christmas.

“And it may be the first happy Christmas that some of them have ever had,” she said.

There are 30 teenagers age 13 to 19 living on campus, Brown said. They will be asked to make out Christmas lists and will open their presents on Christmas morning in their cottages.

“We definitely want to make good memories for them,” Brown said.

Sponsorships will also help the 17 foster children, who range in age from newborn to 18.

The sponsorship will help fund such things as trips to Christmas parades, light displays and live nativities in the region, Brown said, as well as an on-campus Christmas party and decorations. There will also be a special Christmas morning breakfast.

If you’d like to help, call Carrie Brown at 252-235-2161 or send a donation to FWB Children’s Home, P.O. Box 249, Middlesex, NC 27557. In the memo line of the check note “Christmas Sponsor.” You can also make a donation online at fwbchildrenshome.org.
