A pedestrian who was injured in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday remains in critical condition, police said Tuesday.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Hines Street near Tarboro Street around 12:44 a.m. after 53-year-old John Russell Gear of Wilson was found in the westbound lane with serious injuries consistent with a motor vehicle crash, according to officials.
Gear was rushed to Wilson Medical Center, where he was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He remains in critical condition there, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.
Police released security camera images Saturday showing a “vehicle of interest”— a white four-door sedan.
Stroud said police have received leads from the public since they released those images and investigators are currently working them.
The police department’s Strategic Traffic Enforcement Patrol and forensic unit are investigating the crash.
Anyone who recognizes the car or has any information regarding the crash is asked to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
