SNOW HILL — Brayden Jones of the Lake Wilson Tennis Club Otters won his two singles matches at the No. 3 flight to win the division at Wednesday’s United States Tennis Association 12U Junior Team Tennis Downeast Jamboree, hosted by Greene County Tennis Association.
Jones eked out a 6-5 decision over Cole Mersman of GCTA Blue and blanked GCTA Red’s Bryson Warrick 6-0 to clinch the flight.
Collins Pearson and Reagan Owens each went 1-1 at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles flights, respectively. Pearson was upended 6-3 by Anna Katherine Medlin of GCTA Blue in his opening match but salvaged a split by beating GCTA Red’s Sam Avent 6-2.
Owens opened play in the No. 2 flight by being clipped 7-5 at the hands of GCTA Blue’s Rylee Greene. However, she responded by breezing past Sawyer Gowan of Olde Porte Racquet Club of Swansboro by a 6-0 margin.
The doubles tandems of Pearson-Jones and Owens-Holland Ellis each finished third in their respective flights.
After going 0-2 in singles flights, Ellis paired with Owens and got a 6-1 win against GCTA Blue’s Mersman-Coley Dyer. Warrick-Parker Johnson of GCTA Red defeated Ellis-Owens 6-1 in the second match.
Lake Wilson was third in the four-team standings with 14 points, as GCTA Blue and Red patrolled the top two spots with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Olde Porte Raquet Club was fourth with six.

WILMINGTON — The Lake Wilson Tennis Club team produced a 1-3-1 showing during action at the USTA Junior Team Tennis North Carolina State Championship from June 12-14.
Each match was contested on the basis of total games won, with Wilson’s lone win coming in a 17-16 victory over Durham. There, Snyder Pearson and Hatten Gore produced 6-1 and 6-3 wins to put Lake Wilson up by eight entering the two doubles matches. A 6-1 loss at No. 2 doubles cut the margin to three, but Gore-Kathryn Adkins battled Durham’s Kevin Guo-Will Furman to a 6-4 loss on the No. 1 court, giving Lake Wilson the win.
In a 17-17 draw with Raleigh, Snyder Pearson won 6-3 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Caroline Adkins for a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 doubles flight. They also represented the only Lake Wilson victory against host Wilmington in a 22-11 loss, as the duo won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Currituck stormed to a 24-6 decision in Saturday action. In Sunday’s 14-10 loss to Lake Myers, inclement weather shortened the matches to four games.
Snyder Pearson edged Grayson Upchurch 4-3 at No. 1 singles, while Hatten Gore-Kathryn Adkins eked out a 4-3 conquest of Gianna Borcich-Liam Chatten at the No. 1 doubles flight.
