Five players scored in double figures as the Wilson Prep Academy varsity boys basketball team took home the Carolina Athletic Association for Schools of Choice Triangle Athletic Conference tournament trophy against Raleigh Home School on Friday night, 75-63.
Wilson Prep’s Tyronne Whitaker, Lincoln McTaggart, Righteous Tomlin, Nasir Blackston and Sean Sanders all hit double digits with Whitaker being the high man with 14 points. Blackston dropped in 12 points and Tomlin put in 11 points. Sanders and McTaggart finished with 10 points a piece.
Tigers head coach Craig Wilson said if his players want to advance far in the CAASC playoffs, it will need to keep playing as a team like they did tonight.
“Playing together as a unit like we did here tonight, that was really big for us so if we can continue to do that, trust one another, we’ll do really well,” Wilson said.
The Tigers (19-7) avenged a home loss to the Hawks (23-18), 84-83, on Jan. 28. Wilson said his team got out to Raleigh’s shooters better this time and that was the key to the win.
“Number 5 (Mitchell McGrath) and 14 (Michael Davisson), they shot the lights out last time they were here, but tonight our guys were able to locate where they were and help side defense was perfect so that made a huge difference,” Wilson said.
