ARDEN — After a disappointing loss to a highly regarded Porter Gaud team from Charleston, South Carolina, on Friday, the Greenfield School varsity boys basketball team got back on track Saturday with a 76-67 victory over York Prep of Rockville, S.C., in the Battle of the Carolinas, hosted by Christ School.
The Knights, who lost 78-62 to Porter Gaud, evened their record at 2-2 with Saturday’s win.
“Porter Gaud is really good and we shot 5 of 22 from 3-point and playing a team like that, you’ve got to shoot better,” said Greenfield head coach Rob Salter. “I challenged some of our younger guys after the game Friday and they responded .... If we play that hard, we have a chance the rest of the way.”
Senior point guard Coby White, who has signed with North Carolina, led the Knights both games, scoring a season-high 40 points in the win over York Prep pouring in 31 against Porter Gaud. White had 11 rebounds and seven assists Friday and then added eight rebounds and seven assists in Saturday’s game in which he made four of his six 3-point attempts. The Knights hit 6 of 15 from behind the arc Saturday.
Fellow senior Elijah McCadden, who is headed to Georgia Southern, had 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists Friday. Against York Prep, McCadden had 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and one thunderous slam dunk that earned Twitter praise from White: “He violated the rim and anyone near it.”
The Knights are back at home Monday against 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference foe Wayne Christian.
