GAFFNEY, S.C. — Freshman guard Akira Wiggins dropped in a season-high 22 points as Barton College finished the women’s basketball regular season with a 74-64 win Tuesday at Limestone College, giving the Lady Bulldogs a share of the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas regular-season crown.
Barton, 23-4 overall, tied with Emmanuel College at 16-4 in league play but the Lions will take the No. 1 seed into next week’s tournament by virtue of two wins against the Lady Bulldogs.
Wiggins knocked down five 3-pointers for Barton, which saw senior Player of the Year candidate Kianna Wynn return to form after scoring a season-low six points in Saturday’s win at King. Wynn had 15 points and 14 rebounds while senior Dinah Neal scored all 11 of her points in the second half as the Lady Bulldogs rallied from a 38-35 halftime deficit.
Reagan McCray’s 3-pointer for Limestone tied the score at 62-all with 3:01 remaining in the game. But Neal converted a three-point play and hit a jumper to start a game-ending 12-2 run for the Lady Bulldogs.
Zanah Boyd added 10 points for Barton, which overcame 37.1 percent shooting from the floor in part through 25 second-chance points to five for Limestone (13-14, 10-10 CC). The Lady Bulldogs snatched 50 rebounds with reigning conference player of the week Shanika Peterkin claiming 10.
Schekinah Bumpa paced Limestone with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
