RALEIGH — The Barton College women’s tennis team did not drop a game in singles in posting a 9-0 conquest of host Meredith College on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs of the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas improved to 3-2 and continue competition outside the conference in Sumter, South Carolina, on Saturday with a match against Augusta at 1 p.m.

Prevailing in singles were senior Daria Avram, the reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, at No. 1; junior Marissa Stevenson at No. 2, freshman Isabella Caballero at No. 3, sophomore Claudia Capellades at No. 4, freshman Grace McCartney at No. 5 and senior Whitney Hamilton at No. 6. Hamilton was unopposed.

Barton started out with a 3-0 doubles cushion, with the sophomore tandem of Vanessa Sanoja-Ada Vargas prevailing 8-1 at No. 1 and Hamilton-McCartney emerging an 8-4 victor at No. 2.

Only McCartney won on the court in singles and doubles. Meredith defaulted a pair of matches.

Daria Avram (BC) def. Natalie Collins by default; Marissa Stevenson (BC) def. Aly Henneberry 6-0, 6-0; Isabella Caballero (BC) def. Brittney Brown 6-0, 6-0; Claudia Capellades (BC) def. Logan King 6-0, 6-0; Grace McCartney (BC) def. Sarah Porter 6-0, 6-0; Whitney Hamilton (BC) won by default.

Vanessa Sanoja-Ada Vargas (BC) DEF. Collins-Henneberry 8-1; Hamilton-McCartney (BC) def. King-Brown 8-4; Capellades-Caballero (BC) won by default.
