MOUNT OLIVE — The inaugural postseason appearance for the Barton College women’s lacrosse team was a quick one as the Lady Bulldogs saw their season ended with a 15-2 loss to host Mount Olive in the first round of the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas tournament Wednesday afternoon.
No. 7-seeded Barton, in just its second season, finished 5-10, more than doubling its victory total from its 2-10 finish in 2017. The No. 7 Trojans (14-4) scored eight goals in the first 15 minutes of the match.
Freshman Brooke Lonergan had both Barton goals in the second half. The second came on an assist from Rebecca Fraser.
The Trojans posted a 37-9 advantage in shots, keeping Barton goalie Katherine Mattena busy as she collected 14 saves.
With no seniors and only one junior, the Lady Bulldogs hope to return a more experienced squad next spring.
