Lady Bulldogs swept in both matches Saturday at Queens

CHARLOTTE — Barton’s early season struggles continued for the women’s volleyball team as the Lady Bulldogs were swept in both matches Saturday at the Queens University Volleyball Classic.

The Lady Bulldogs, now 1-7, lost 25-14, 25-20, 25-13 to Anderson University in the first match Saturday and then dropped a 25-13, 25-16, 25-15 outcome to Augusta University.

Sophomore Kaytlin Elkins was named to the all-tournament team after posting eight kills against Augusta following a 13-kill showing versus Anderson. Against Augusta (6-1), sophomore Camryn Frederick had seven kills and freshman Peyton Kendall had six kills, four digs and an ace. Senior Angelica Acevedo put up totals of 20 assists and 11 digs.

In the first match, Elkins added eight digs to her 13 kills while Kendall produced seven kills and eight digs and Frederick had five kills and four block-assists. Riley Bane came up with 17 digs.

Barton hit just .043 as a team while Anderson (6-1) posted a .214 percentage.

The Lady Bulldogs, who have yet to play at home, will be back in action Tuesday in a tri-match at Wingate, playing the host Lady Bulldogs at 3 p.m. and Francis Marion at 5 p.m. Barton’s first home match isn’t until Sept. 19 against Chowan.
