RALEIGH — Placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 12, the Wilson Christian girls cross-country team overcame High Point Wesleyan Christian getting the top two individual finishes to eke out a 37-42 victory in a four-team meet Thursday at Wake Christian.
The host Bulldogs (59) and Raleigh Saint Mary’s (72) rounded out the field.
WCA counted the times of third-place Jenna Varnell in 23:53 and Ocean Reece in fourth at 23:55. Ashley Hardy (8th, 24:54), Holland Miller (10th, 25:37) and Kathryn Glover (12th, 25:37) rounded out the Lady Chargers’ counting scores.
Maddie Cashion won the girls race for Wesleyan Christian in 23:40, two seconds clear of teammate Eden Reitnour.In the boys race, WCA opposed Wesleyan Christian head-to-head and was defeated by a 23-37 count.
Seth Trull established a new personal best after finishing in second place with a time of 19:37. Trull was supplemented by third-place Lin Scott in 19:39, Briceson Martin in 11th at 21:40, 13th-place Carter Zancder in 22:22 and the 18th-place run of Andrew Blalock in 23:54.
Kellen Lundy of Wesleyan Christian won the boys race in 19:16, overcoming 21 competitors.
WCA hosts its first home meet of the season on Tuesday.
