Ladybirds dealt Senior Night loss

STANHOPE — The Southern Nash High varsity volleyball team turned in a stout Senior Night performance but dropped a 25-9, 25-11, 21-25, 25-19 decision to 3-A Big East Conference regular-season champion Franklinton on Thursday.
The Ladybirds ended their regular season but visit Rocky Mount at 10 a.m. Saturday in the opening round of the conference tournament.
In its first season in the Big East, Franklinton, which played in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference last season, finished undefeated in 10 regular-season conference tests.
Southern Nash often rallied with the Lady Rams by diving after spikes, running down shanks and consistently digging serves.
Olivia Cruz’s five kills, while Abigail Cowart and Lauren Fassnacht each managed four kills. Lyndsey Turner supplied three kills and Cowart had a tip.
