With a 6-0 regular-season record, the Lake Wilson USTA Junior Team Tennis 12U roster cemented its spot as Downeast League champions Friday morning with a doubleheader sweep of Benevenue Country Club.
With total games won as the consideration, Lake Wilson won the first match 21-10 before rolling to a 25-6 victory in the finale.
It was one of four victories on the week for the 12U roster, which was not defeated in a contested set over the course of the week.
The team now advances to the state championship to be held in Cary from July 13-15.
In other junior team tennis action, the Lake Wilson 18U roster claimed four of six singles matches to win a 6-3 outcome over Baywood Racquet Club of Winterville.
Lake Wilson, now 3-0 on the year, won two of the three matches decided by 9-7 outcomes. Fike High graduate Thomas Hodges prevailed at No. 1 singles, while Snyder Pearson-Max Fogleman got a 9-7 conquest in the No. 3 doubles spt.
The team visits River Birch Tennis Center in Greenville next Thursday.
In the 14U division, Lake Wilson legged out a 4-1 victory over Greene County Tennis Association on Wednesday.
Now 2-0, the team recorded an 8-0 win from the tandem of Caroline Adkins-Kathryn Adkins in the No. 2 position.
