I was so thankful to read “Can Wilson County work together to curb roadside littering?” by Ashley E. Robbins Jr., Jan. 30.

The author had several suggestions; asking the sheriff to consider inmate details picking up trash, church and civic groups organizing cleanup events, businesses encouraging their employees to work as teams to tackle problem areas and parents teaching our children how to take better care of our world.

During Christmas, I had visitors from Colorado, California and Washington D.C. I found myself constantly apologizing for the embarrassing amount of trash along the side of our roads throughout Wilson County, it really is bad!

Instead of complaining I decided I want to help. I have purchased an extra box of garbage bags and will keep it in my car with some work gloves. Every once in a while I plan to pull over and bag up a load or two. I won’t be able to fix the problem, but maybe I’ll make a dent. Won’t you join me?
