KENLY — North Johnston senior wide receiver Imandre McFarland just wanted another chance to play football competitively. Louisburg College offered him that chance.

McFarland signed to play with the National Junior College Athletic Association Region X member in North Johnston’s library on May 15. McFarland chose Louisburg over NCAA Division III Averett University and Wingate University of the Division II ranks.

“I liked Louisburg, it felt like home,” McFarland said. “Whenever I walked through the door the coaches shook my hand, they told me I could get food, they just showed me around and made me feel at home. I get another chance to play football, and God wanted me to have this.”

McFarland played offense and defense for the Panthers last season. McFarland caught 25 passes for 425 yards and four TDs as a wide receiver. As a cornerback, McFarland tallied 18 tackles, intercepted a pass and deflected another in just eight contests. McFarland said he’s glad to be able to focus on one position, but if needed,  he’ll play anywhere for the Hurricanes.

“I like focusing on one position, but if they need me on something else I’m there,” McFarland said. “I can play lineman if you want me to, wide receiver, running back, quarterback — whatever. I’m there for the team.”

McFarland joins a program that went 6-3 last season and 22-3 over the last three seasons. The Hurricanes also sent four players to play football at a four-year institution last season.

“Their football program helps build you and make you a man, and I want that,” McFarland said. “I love their coaches. The school is amazing: it’s not too big, it’s not too small. They gave me a chance to play football and show the world my talents, so I’m going to do that.”

McFarland plans to major in psychology.
