For the second time in as many months, a Wilson County man was arrested following a shooting at an area business.
Wilson County deputies responded to a shots-fired call shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday to The Breeze Bar at 4414 U.S. 301 near Elm City. Upon arrival, deputies determined a fight had broken out and a person was shot. The victim, a 47-year-old Elm City man, was taken to Vidant Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.
Deputies identified 52-year-old Dean Robinson Hawley as the shooter and said he was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with attempted murder and carrying a concealed handgun. Hawley was booked into the Wilson County Detention Center under a $255,000 secured bond.
In June, police say Hawley fired a gun into the patio ceiling at Da Bayou during a fight involving two other men. No one was injured in that incident, but the Sims man was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits. Hawley was given a $1,000 secured bond in that incident and the two men who allegedly were fighting also were charged.
