ZEBULON — Pat McInerney hit a walk-off single with one out in the ninth inning, as the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Potomac Nationals 2-1 on Sunday at Five County Stadium.
Carolina moved to 14-10 and is in second place in the Carolina League's Southern Division. Potomac dropped to 9-15.
Tristen Lutz scored the game-winning run after he was hit with a pitch to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a wild pitch and then went to third on a walk by Ryan Aguilar.
In the top of the third, Potomac grabbed the lead on a double by Nick Banks that scored Armond Upshaw. Carolina answered in the fourth inning when Lutz hit a solo home run.
Reliever Rodrigo Benoit (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out one over two scoreless innings. Frankie Bartow (0-1) allowed one run and got one out in the Carolina League game.
Carolina improved to 5-1 against Potomac this season.
