Elm City held off Springfield 8-6 on Thursday for the Vikings’ second football win this season.
The Vikings broke into the scoring column on Josiah Artis’ 15-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, followed by what would be the decisive two-point conversion run by Kaleb Artis.
Springfield answered with a 35-yard TD reception in the third quarter but failed to convert the two-point pass due to the Vikings pass rush.
From there, the defenses took over as Elm City halted a pair of deep Springfield advances inside the Elm City 20-yard line. Both drives ended with Viking interceptions, one by Garrett Bunn and the second by Tylee Vick late in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings (2-1) will play at Speight on Monday in a game that was postponed from earlier this season due to the heat. Elm City will then host Darden on Thursday in a regularly scheduled game.
