Wildcats thump Trojans 9-0

Springfield kicked off its boys soccer season Wednesday with a 9-0 rout of visiting Darden.

Nestor Castro, Oscar Gonzalez and Horacio Urrutia each put in a pair of goals for the Wildcats while Will Braswell, Julian Aguilar and German Arroyo each scored a goal.

Springfield will visit Speight on Monday.

Vikings roll past Bucks 10-1

Ethan Williams had a hat trick and Noah Joyner added a pair of goals for the Elm City boys soccer team as it started its season with a 10-1 romp over Forest Hills on Wednesday.

Nick Halverson opened the scoring before Joyner made it 2-0. Williams notched the first of his three goals before Joyner put another shot in the net for a 4-1 halftime lead for the Vikings.

Williams scored twice more in the second half while Walker Barnes, Kevin Moran, Antwan Macedo and Nathan Spencer each netted a goal.

Moran had a pair of assists in the first half while Halverson was credited with one.

J.T. Jobe and Barnes combined in goal for six saves.

No scoring information for the Bucks was available.

Elm City will play at South Edgecombe on Monday.

Springfield spikes Darden in 3

Host Springfield tipped off its volleyball season with a three-set sweep of Darden on Wednesday, 25-8, 25-3, 25-11.

Bailey Kirby and Trista Waddell led the Lady Wildcats at the service line with 15 points each while Jordan Corbett served nine points. Kirby added six assists and Madelyn Ellis had four hits for Springfield, which will play Monday at Speight.
