MIDDLE SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Big third quarter sends Wilson Prep boys past Raleigh Home School

Leading 20-17 at halftime, the Wilson Prep Academy boys basketball team outscored visiting Raleigh Home School 21-2 in the third quarter en route to a 50-23 triumph Friday night.

The Tigers were sparked by Micah Buck with 14 points and Zion White with 11. Justin Ellison added seven points.

Third quarter foils Lady Chargers vs. Wake

After trailing by two at halftime, the Wilson Christian girls basketball team was outscored 17-2 in the third quarter en route to a 35-15 loss against visiting Wake Christian on Friday.

Gracie Famer led the Lady Chargers (8-5) with five pots.

WCA remains home Tuesday to face Winterville Christ Covenant.

Chargers beaten by Wake Christian

Wilson Christian was handed a 56-24 boys basketball defeat Friday by visiting Wake Christian.

Hunter Lewis produced a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Chargers while David Greene added nine points.

Wilson Christian will host Christ Covenant on Tuesday.

Speight clips Darden, undefeated at 6-0

The Speight girls basketball team stretched its undefeated start to six games with a 35-10 road conquest of Darden on Thursday.

The Lady Cougars took command with a 20-4 halftime margin.

Daneesha Briggs spearheaded Speight with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Kymilla Keel chipped in with six points.

Speight risks its perfect record at home Monday against West Edgecombe.

Murray, Ellis lead Darden past Speight

Behind Johntavious Murray and Julian Ellis, host Darden rolled to a 54-33 triumph against Speight on Thursday in boys basketball.

Murray fired in 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Ellis netted 10 points and came up with four steals. Keonte Barron and Quan Davis each scored four points.

Leading Speight were Kris Atkinson with 14 points and Micah Sherrod with 13.

The Trojans travel to Springfield on Monday.

 

Lentz comes up clutch for Elm City

A pair of clutch shots from Avery Lentz boosted the host Elm City girls basketball team to a 30-27 squeaker against Toisnot on Thursday.

Avery connected on a buzzer-beating 3-point shot at halftime and then sank a layup with under 10 seconds remaining to seal the outcome.

Lentz’s 12 points paced the Lady Vikings, while Connie Pleasants tallied eight.

Toisnot’s Makayla Williams tossed in a game-high 14 points.

Elm City evened its record at 3-3, while the Lady Hawks dropped to 1-4. The Lady Vikings welcome Forest Hills on Monday, while Toisnot is the guest of South Edgecombe, also on Monday.

Jones’ 30 points trigger Toisnot win

Jahmar Jones poured in 30 points to trigger visiting Toisnot to a 55-43 win against Elm City on Thursday.

Jones also dished out five assists. Ceonte Jones added nine points and three steals, while E.L. Avent tallied seven points and claimed eight rebounds. Nick Edwards chipped in with six points and three steals. The Hawks outscored Elm City 21-11 in the final quarter. Toisnot improved its record to 5-1.

Elm City, which slipped to 4-2, was led by Drew Pittman with 14 points and J.D. Graziani with nine.

The teams return to action Monday, with Elm City hosting Forest Hills and Toisnot visiting South Edgecombe to open the second half of the season.

Springfield slides past Forest Hills

The host Springfield boys basketball team evened its record at 3-3 by edging Forest Hills, 46-40, on Thursday.

The Wildcats owned a 21-18 halftime edge.

Sparking Springfield were Jahvonne Williams with 15 points and 10 rebounds; Alex Speight with 10 points and Daidien Sutton with eight points and six assists.

Forest Hills got 10 point from Blessed Carmon and seven from Patrick Dew.

Springfield welcomes Darden on Monday.

4th quarter costs WCA Blue, 32-24

RALEIGH — The visiting Wilson Christian Academy Blue girls basketball team battled host Friendship Christian on even terms for three quarters before being outscored 12-4 the final quarter and suffering a 32-24 loss.

Chloe Villaverde netted nine points to lead the Lady Chargers (8-4). Patsy Price had eight points and Holland Miller seven.

Top Friendship scorers were Hughes with 15 points and Norris with 11.

WCA Blue suffers loss to Friendship

RALEIGH — The Wilson Christian Academy Blue boys basketball team found a 27-12 halftime deficit insurmountable in dropping a 47-37 decision to host Friendship Christian on Thursday.

The Chargers dropped to 6-8 despite 12 points and 13 rebounds from Seth Quinn.

Defense keys Hawks past Springfield

A strong defensive effort keyed the Toisnot boys basketball team to a 49-32 victory against Springfield on Wednesday.

The Hawks boosted their record to 4-1 and complete the first half of their season by visiting Elm City on Thursday.

Jahmar Jones sparked the Toisnot offense with 17 points and three assists. E.L. Avent tossed in 11 points and claimed five rebounds. Caleb Willingham netted eight points.
