Behind 14 points from Jamaria Freeman, the Forest Hills girls basketball team improved its record to 5-1 by a 33-21 margin against visiting Springfield on Thursday.

Freeman was aided by Paris Jones, who played stellar defense and managed eight points.

Victoria Coleman emerged Springfield’s leading scorer with 11 points.

Forest Hills welcomes Elm City on Monday.

Wilson Prep shells NE Carolina Prep

The host Wilson Prep girls basketball team left North East Carolina Prep its seventh victim in  eight outings by a 39-6 margin on Thursday. The Lady Tigers have won both conference outings.

Leading the Wilson Prep attack were Lauryn Barbour with 14 points, Brianna Sigurdson with eight, Niiyana Edwards with seven and Emory Skinner with six.

Wilson Prep’s next test will be on the road Tuesday against Winterville Charter.

Toisnot rally falls short vs. Elm City

The Toisnot girls basketball team, despite a second-half charge, could not overcome a 21-5 halftime deficit in bowing 26-18 to Elm City on Thursday.

Elm City pitched a shutout against the Lady Hawks in upping their record to 6-0. Top Lady Vikings scorers were Jewel Brewington with 13 points and Connie Pleasants with nine.

Leading the Lady Hawks were Ainsley Caton with 10 points and Jalia Daniels with eight.

Springfield escapes Bucks

The visiting Springfield boys basketball team hung on for a 40-39 win at Forest Hills on Thursday.

Dasidien Sutton supplied 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Wildcats upped their record to 5-1. Sutton was complemented by Drew Pittman with 12 points and Jarrett Kovach with seven.

The Wildcats next see action at home Monday against Darden.

Wilson Prep romps 58-16, stands 9-1

The Wilson Prep boys basketball team boasts a 9-1 record after rolling to a 58-16 conquest at home against North East Carolina Prep on Thursday. The Tigers growled to a 28-8 halftime lead.

Top Wilson Prep scorers were Dylan Skinner and David Ellis with 13 points each and Vershed Watson with eight.

The Tigers visit Wintrerville Charter on Tuesday.

Simpkins, Edwards key Toisnot victory

Jordan Simpkins drilled in 12 points and Nick Edwards bucketed 10 to lead the Toisnot boys basketball team to a 42-28 win against Elm City on Thursday.

The Hawks improved their record to  5-1, while Elm City dropped to 1-5.

Top Vikings scorers were T. Vick with seven points and Rickey Dixon with six.

Toisnot is the guest of Springfield on Monday, while Elm City is the guest of Forest Hills.
