PINETOPS — Elm City, the defending Tricounties Athletic Conference girls soccer champion, kicked off its season with a 9-0 victory Wednesday at South Edgecombe.
Eight different players scored goals for the Lady Vikings, including Hayley Selfe, who had two. Caroline Adkins, Avery Lentz and Mallory Jenkins each had a goal and an assist while Natalie Capps, Kate Conoley, Ashlyn Burnett and Reagan Nelson each scored a goal.
The Lady Vikings will host Speight on Monday.
Eight players score for Lady Wildcats
For the second day in a row, the Springfield girls soccer team got scoring from many sources in a 9-0 victory as the Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 with the mercy rule-shortened victory at Speight on Wednesday.
Susan Guzman had two goals for Springfield, which got one goal each from Madyson Brown, Evelyn Chavez, Gabriela Ruelas, Gretchen Weeks, Nevaeh Best, Paige Mathews and Sammi Mallol.
Natalie Cox had an assist for the Lady Wildcats, who will host South Edgecombe on Monday.
Stegall has 6 goals in WPA romp
WINTERVILLE — Lilian Stegall scored six goals as the Wilson Prep girls soccer rolled to a 8-0 victory Tuesday at Winterville Charter.
Grace Ziegler and Niiyana Edwards each scored a goal while Ziegler made three assists and Emma Etheridge delivered one assist.
Etheridge made two saves in goal in the first half as she combined with Makayla Best on the shutout.
Tigers bash NECP 23-4
The Wilson Prep baseball team rolled to a 23-4 win against North East Carolina Prep on Monday.
Evan Barnhill was 4 for 6 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Tigers while Justin Ellison, Gage Lockhart, Deandre Sellers, Kaden Ferrell, Shea Whitley and Zevin Boose each had a pair of hits. Ellison, Lockhart and Sellers doubled while Ferrell tripled.
Justin Ellinson notched the win on the mound with nine strikeouts in three innings.
