Toisnot holds off West Edgecombe, 25-23
ROCKY MOUNT — Clinging to a nine-point edge at halftime, the Toisnot girls basketball team withstood a West Edgecombe rally to claim a 25-23 triumph in the Lady Hawks’ season opener Thursday.
Jalia Daniels had 13 points to lead the way for Toisnot, while Ainsley Cato had six.
Lady Chargers get first win
A strong fourth quarter enabled the Wilson Christian girls basketball team to rally for a 21-16 win over Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Rocky Mount on Thursday, its first victory in six tries.
Melia Hughes had nine points for the Lady Chargers, while Lilly Hoskins had eight.

Bucks rout Vikings, 53-25
The Forest Hills boys basketball team jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 53-25 victory over Elm City in the season opener for both squads Thursday.
Acyon Davis and Mason Wocher each had eight for Elm City, which which visits West Edgecombe on Monday.
Forest Hills hosts Toisnot on Monday.

Elm City girls clip Forest Hills, 26-20
Jewel Brewington and Emma Spencer paced a balanced scoring attack for the Elm City girls basketball team Thursday in a 26-20 season-opening win over visiting Forest Hills.
Brewington had 10 points for Elm City, while Emma Spencer added eight.
For Forest Hills, Jamaria Freeman led the way with nine points.
