The Wilson Christian Academy volleyball team served into its season with a pair of victories Thursday and Friday.

The Lady Chargers opened with a 25-13, 22-25, 15-11 conquest of Christ Covenant of Winterville and, on Friday, dominated at Wayne Christian 25-9, 25-15.

Isabella Barnes served for 20 points in the win against Christ Covenant, and Sophia Nesbit chipped in with 10 points.

Sparking the Lady Chargers against Wayne Christian was Faith Bridgers with 11 points in one set.

 

CROSS-COUNTRY

Thurman paces CCS in home meet

Rori Thurman finished sixth in 22 minutes, 2 seconds out of 20 runners to pace the Community Christian girls in a six-team cross-country meet hosted by CCS on Thursday, Aug. 23. Also scoring for the Lady Cyclones were Caitlyn Baran (11th, 26:05) and Emily Baran (13th, 27:14) on the 3.5-kilometer course.

Nikki Ragland of Lee Christian was the overall winner in 17:01, helping it to the team win.

In the boys race, CCS was led by Tyler Medlin, who was 17th in 24:42. Christ Covenant won the boys team meet, led by individual winner Lake Williams, who finished in 16:09.
