A Wilson councilman has a second opponent for his re-election bid in November.

William “Bill” Darden filed Thursday with the Wilson County Board of Election to run against Derrick Creech, who represents District 7. Darden was the second opponent, with Johnnie Chestnut filing for Creech’s seat on Tuesday.

The race for two seats on the Sharpsburg Board of Commissioners also is heating up as Randall Collie filed Friday for re-election and Maurice Garrett filed Thursday, both with the Nash County Board of Elections.

The remaining filings in Wilson were by incumbents, including Ralph Smith for mayor of Black Creek, Grady Smith for mayor of Elm City and Cynthia Saunders for the Saratoga town commission. Another filing in Nash County was by Dwan Finch, who is running for a seat on the Bailey town commission.

The filing period for municipal elections runs through noon on July 21.
