KINSTON — A four-run fourth inning by the host Down East Wood Ducks propelled them to a 7-1 victory over the Carolina Mudcats on Sunday in the final game of the Single-A Carolina League series at Grainger Stadium.
The teams split the four-game series to start the season.
Mudcats starting pitcher Dylan File (0-1) retired nine straight Wood Ducks, including six strikeouts, over the first three innings before Down East erupted in the fourth. Diosbel Arias doubled in two runs and Ryan Dorow followed with a two-run home run, his first of the season.
Carolina’s only run came on Rob Henry’s solo shot in the ninth.
The Mudcats stay on the road as they visit the Potomac Nationals for a three-game series in Woodbridge, Virginia, starting Monday night at 7:05.
