Carolina Mudcats infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson was saluted by the Single-A Advanced Carolina League as its player of the week on Monday.
Wilson hit .500 (7 for 14) in five games last week, belting three home runs and a triple while driving in four runs and scoring six. All three of his homers came in the Mudcats’ two games Saturday and Sunday against the Down East Wood Ducks in Kinston.
Wilson, who played at Clemson University, was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers, the Mudcats’ parent club, in the 17th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft in 2016. He started the 2017 season with Carolina before going back down to Low-A in July. The High Point native returned to the Mudcats in August.
The Mudcats will open a three-game series at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Tuesday before hosting the Wood Ducks for a three-game set in Five County Stadium, starting Friday, with a fireworks display following the game.
