SMITHFIELD — Olivia was the top girls’ name for Johnston County babies born in 2018 while Elijah and Sebastian tied for the most popular boys’ name, according to Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive.
Other popular girls’ names were Sophia, Emma, Ava, Naomi, Abigail, Autumn, Charlotte, Chloe and Kinsley. Popular boys’ names in 2018 were Daniel, Eli, Ethan, Henry, James, Liam, Logan and Mason.
In 2018, there were 1,661 babies born, 843 boys and 818 girls. The county’s vital records also state there were 1,303 deaths in Johnston County last year and 1,179 marriage licenses issued.
Olive also provided details for births, deaths and marriage licenses for the past 10 years.
“It is interesting to see in the increase in vital records for our county over the past 10 years as we continue to grow and welcome new residents,” Olive said in a news release.
In 2009, there were 1,363 births, 849 deaths and 972 marriage licenses issued.
“Our office is able to quickly access this data because we utilize the most up-to-date technology,” said Olive. “My ongoing goal is to continue to make the Register of Deeds office and its website user-friendly.”
