Traffic on U.S. 264 slowed Friday afternoon after a pickup truck ran off the road and ended up in a precarious spot between a bridge pillar and underpass.
The wreck happened on U.S. 264 West between Sims and Interstate 95 in Wilson County shortly after 3 p.m. State troopers say the driver of a pickup truck was traveling west on U.S. 264 when his blood sugar dropped, causing him to run off the road and down an embankment where his vehicle came to rest underneath the bridge near the railroad tracks.
Troopers said the man was OK and didn’t suffer any life-threatening injuries. Wilson County EMS officials took the driver to the hospital.
Trooper Dustin Wuebbles said the man was lucky.
“God still has a plan for him,” he said. Wilson County Emergency Management and volunteer fire officials also responded to the scene.
The wreck resulted in at least one train stopping along the tracks as crews worked nearby to tow the vehicle away Friday afternoon.
