Wilson police have identified the suspect in a robbery at the Wilson County Senior Activity Center as the same man who a N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles agent shot shortly thereafter.
According to witnesses and victims at the senior center, 27-year-old Roy Anthony McAllister Jr. entered the building and encountered an employee prior to the center opening, Sgt Steve Stroud said in a news release.
"McAllister demanded money and attempted to sexually assault the female employee while holding her against her will," Stroud said.
Officials said the victim attempted to escape and was subsequently struck in the face. Stroud said several elderly women came into the center and interrupted the incident.
"These victims were forced into an office and made to lie down and one was robbed of her car keys," Stroud said in a release.
McAllister fled from the senior center on foot, police said.
He said while officers were initially responding to the robbery, a Wilson police officer detained a person at the Wilson Doughnut Shop.
"The person detained was immediately determined not to be involved and was released," Stroud said.
During the initial response by Wilson police, DMV License and Theft investigators made contact with McAllister a short distance from the senior center, Stroud said.
A DMV agent fatally shot McAllister. The SBI is still investigating the shooting.
Stroud said the items located on McAllister's person at the scene belonged to robbery victims from the senior center.
