SouthWest Edgecombe erupted for 30 points in the third quarter of Friday’s varsity boys basketball game at Beddingfield, pulling away for an 82-64 and ruining Senior Night for the Bruins.
The Cougars, now 18-5 overall, got 29 points from senior Keishon Porter as they finished 2-A Eastern Plains Conference play with an 8-2 mark. With their fourth straight loss, the Bruins (9-13, 3-7 EPC) dropped to fourth place in the final standings and will face No. 5 North Johnston in the first round of the conference tournament at Nash Central at 6 p.m. Monday. The Cougars, seeded second, will host Wednesday’s semifinals against the Nash Central-North Pitt first-round winner.
Porter was aided by 15 points from senior Slate Hinton and 14 points from senior Dorien Ruffin.
Junior Raekwon Batts had 19 points to pace the Bruins.
