AHOSKIE — The Wilson Post 13 American Legion baseball team continued the dizzying trend of splitting with each of its Area I East Division opponents Friday night.
However, Wilson’s latest 50-50 proposition was of the ignominious variety.
In falling to 1-3 in a crucial five-game stretch to end its season, Post 13 dropped a 5-4 decision to Ahoskie Post 102 on the campus of Hertford County High. It dropped Wilson to 6-6 overall and 5-6 in Area I East ahead of Saturday’s regular-season finale versus Wayne County Post 11 in Fleming Stadium.
Post 11 has clinched the Area I East title after claiming a doubleheader via forfeit from Edenton Post 40 that was scheduled for Sunday. However, if Post 13 can defeat Wayne County, it will have concluded conference play with a split against each opponent. Ahoskie, which does not plan to participate in the postseason, concluded Area I East play at 2-10. The outcome represented Wilson’s second loss to Post 102 since 2002 and only the ninth in 65 all-time meetings.
