A short section of Tilghman Road in Wilson will be closed this week so crews can replace a culvert, the N.C. Department of Transportation announced.
The closure, between 2838 and 2840 Tilghman Road, was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday and could be complete by 5 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting. It was unclear whether rain in Wednesday’s forecast would delay the road work’s completion.
The work is taking place now because it is spring break and the road closure won’t disrupt school bus routes, the DOT said. Message boards about the closure have been in place since last week.
Drivers will still be able to access homes and businesses up to the closure. If coming from Lake Wilson Road, that means up to 2840 Tilghman Road, and from Ward Boulevard, motorists can access up to 2839 Tilghman Road, including Peace Church.
To get around the closure, drivers will be directed to use Ward Boulevard, N.C. 58 (Nash Street) and Lake Wilson Road.
