Sept. 3, 1938 — March 17, 2017 STANTONSBURG — Mr. Ronald West, 78, died peacefully at his home on Friday, March 17, 2017. A native of Greene County, he was born Sept. 3, 1938, the son of Arthur George and Queenie Heath West. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and charter member of the Bullhead Volunteer Fire Department, having served as its chief in years past. One of his earliest careers was with Stocks Oil Co. in Snow Hill until he later took up farming on his family’s land. In later years, he returned to truck driving, which he did until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Boykin West; sisters, Vick Jones, Louise Williamson, Imogene Rouse, Geraldine West and Judy Baxter; and a brother, Mack West. He is survived by his daughters, Angie Smith (Allen) and Tammy Williford (Jeff); son, Chris West (Cindy Creech); grandchildren, Amy Walston (Kit), Clark Smith, Haley Williford and Thomas Williford; great-grandchild, Ava Walston; sister, Cleo McKeel (Jerry); brother-in-law, Bob Baxter; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tinkerbell. Memorial services will be held graveside 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at the Stantonsburg Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Heath officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of Angie and Allen Smith.
