As we approach the upcoming elections, I wanted to show support for an outstanding mayor — Bruce Rose.

When I started preparing to retire from the Navy in 2013, we looked for a place to settle down and found Wilson to be the right place. Over the next three years, I observed Wilson and was impressed that under Mayor Rose’s leadership, the community was thriving, events were happening and it is truly a place to feel at home.

Under his leadership, criminal activity has decreased by more than 20%. That is impressive, but more important are the initiatives in public safety that include improved forensics facilities, a greater emphasis on community involvement and crisis intervention, better training and additional certifications for police and facilities. Besides the policing and public safety improvements, the city has seen consistent decreases in unemployment and growth in business. All these things are a direct result of Mayor Rose’s leadership and his priorities for every resident of Wilson.

I have not seen anyone running for mayor who has the vision and plans demonstrated by the performance of Mayor Rose. As the election approaches, I encourage everyone to research the candidates and understand what they stand for and their plans to improve Wilson. We should hear specifics and not standard politician-speak. I have found that Mayor Rose truly fits the bill!

We must all ensure we know what and who we are voting for, and most importantly, participate in our election processes. Get registered, go vote!
