Five incumbent elected officials in Wilson County towns filed for re-election Wednesday.
Charles “Tommy” Hawkins currently serves as the mayor of Saratoga and hopes to be re-elected for another two-year term. Also seeking another two years in office were Saratoga Commissioner Timothy “Tim” Shelton and Black Creek Commissioner William “Roland” Godwin. Saratoga has three commissioner seats open during this cycle, while Black Creek has five commissioner seats open.
Grady N. Smith, who currently serves as Elm City’s mayor, also filed for re-election Wednesday. The seat carries a two-year term. Gilbert “Gil” Wheeler is also seeking another two years of office as an Elm City commissioner. Elm City has five seats open for town commissioner.
There are 28 seats in seven Wilson County towns on the ballot. Since filing began at noon Friday, 17 residents have filed paperwork at the Wilson County Board of Elections office. Filing continues through noon on July 19 for the upcoming Nov. 5 municipal election.
