Schools announce teacher, principal of year finalists

The winners of this year’s teacher and principal of the year awards will be announced at a special dinner event from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Elementary School.

Finalists for the 2019-20 Wilson County Schools Teacher of the Year are Britney Phillips, fourth-grade teacher at Lucama Elementary School; Jenasis Rogers, eighth-grade English language arts teacher at Springfield Middle School; and Will Edwards, biology teacher at Hunt High School.

Finalists for WCS principal of the year are Daniel Barnes, principal at Barnes Elementary School and Marquis Spell, principal at Springfield Middle School.

The 2019-20 WCS teacher of the Year top 10 list of nominees included Kari Stallings, Douglass Elementary School; Jayme Daniels, Elm City Middle School; Amber Inscoe, Fike High School; Jordan Webb, Gardners Elementary School; William Edwards, Hunt High School; Britney Phillips, Lucama Elementary School; Nicole Hunt, New Hope Elementary School; Ashley Watkins, Rock Ridge Elementary School; Jenasis Rogers, Springfield Middle School; and Sarah Anderson, Wilson Academy of Applied Technology.

School-level teachers of the year for the 2019-20 school year include Ashley Sullivan, Barnes Elementary School; Luke Hancock, Beddingfield High School; Charles Wairia, Daniels Learning Center; Chanta Robinson, Darden Middle School; Kari Stallings, Douglass Elementary School; Jayme Daniels, Elm City Middle School; Amber Inscoe, Fike High School; and Tondia Best, Forest Hills Middle School.

Also, Jordan Webb, Gardners Elementary School; Serita Braswell, Hearne Elementary School; William Edwards, Hunt High School; Tinika Bunch, Jones Elementary School; Stacy Mancera, Lee Woodard Elementary School; Britney Phillips, Lucama Elementary School; Nicole Hunt, New Hope Elementary School; Ashley Watkins, Rock Ridge Elementary School; Zatandem Jones, Speight Middle School; Jenasis Rogers, Springfield Middle School; Gretchen Godinez, Stantonsburg Elementary School; and Joanna Farriss, Toisnot Middle School.

Also, Shenika Davis, Vick Elementary School; Cynthia Hardy, Vinson-Bynum Elementary School; Miranda Walls, Wells Elementary School; Sarah Anderson, Wilson Academy of Applied Technology; Olympia Jenkins, Wilson Early College Academy; and Elaine Darden, Winstead Elementary School.

The selection process for teacher of the year and principal of the year is overseen by the Wilson County Schools Organizational Development Department. Based on portfolios, interviews and school visits, a panel of judges selects the finalists.

Wilson County Schools has 26 schools with 727 classroom teachers handling the education of 11,500 students.
