HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — After starting 1-6 this season, the Barton College men’s tennis team has rattled off four straight victories as Bulldogs picked up two victories in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, at the Van de Meer Tennis Center, where they beat Tiffin (Ohio), 4-3, and West Liberty (West Virginia), 6-1.

Barton of Conference Carolinas seized control of the match  vs. Tiflin by taking the doubles point after No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Diego Agudelo and sophomore Oscar Marmestedt beat Nikita Parfenov and Toby Cutting, 6-2, and junior Rory Gaydon and freshman James Kelly won at second doubles, 7-6.

Agudelo and Gaydon both wn their singles matches as well to hep the cause. Agudelo needed three sets at No. 1 singles to do it. Hugh Ryder clinched the win at No. 6 singles in straight sets.

Tiffin of The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference fell to 6-6.

The Bulldogs will try to even up their record by winning the first match of conference season on the road against Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Seizing the doubles point to open play, the Barton proceeded to make brisk work of West Liberty.

It was the Bulldogs’ third match win in a row to improve to 4-6, with sophomores Diego Agudelo, Oscar Marmestedt, Alessandro Gerbino and Hugh Ryder sweeping singles and doubles matches.

In going 2-0, Marmestedt rallied from a first-set loss to topple West Liberty’s Anton Schulz 2-6, 6-1 and 10-5 in the third-set tiebreaker.

West Liberty, affiliated with the Mountain East Conference, dropped to 1-4.
