The North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution, an organization that promotes fellowship among Revolutionary War descendants, has selected Renny Taylor as the Dr. Tom and Betty Lawrence American History High School History Teacher of the Year.

Taylor is an Advanced Placement history teacher at Nash Central High School. The award, a bronze Good Citizenship medal and a check for $500, was presented at the organization’s annual meeting. The Halifax Resolves chapter of the state SAR sponsored Taylor’s nomination.

Taylor has also won the national SAR American History High School History Teacher of the Year contest. The presentation will be made in July in Costa Mesa, California. The national winner receives potential benefits worth up to $5,000.

Taylor lives in Wilson with his wife, Leslie.
