CLAYTON — Senior Aniya Thigpen, accurate on seven shots from 3-point range, fired in a season-high 22 points to trigger the Fike High varsity girls basketball team to a 54-36 nonconference victory against host Cleveland on Tuesday evening.
The second win against the Lady Rams lifted Fike’s record to 8-2 going into Thursday night’s road test against Triton.
Behind Thigpen’s bombing, the Lady Golden Demons of the 3-A Big East Conference forged a 30-14 halftime margin. Cleveland managed a mild rally in the third quarter.
First-year Fike head coach Jeff Nelson described the win as “well-balanced.”
“We had a good effort all around,” Nelson added. “The guards and bigs, from top to bottom, were contributing inside and outside.”
Thigpen was complemented by senior Jada Lee with 11 points and 6-foot-2 senior Mason Blake with 10 rebounds.

It’s a modest two-game winning streak, but a winning streak nontheless for the Greenfield School varsity girls basketball team.
The Lady Knights finished the 2017 portion of their schedule Tuesday night, owning a 24-6 halftime lead en route to a comfortable 42-16 victory over Wilson Preparatory Academy.
Kaelyn Wall led 1-A Greenfield (4-5) of the 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference with 20 points. Sumer Hassan added seven points as all seven Greenfield players saw playing time. Six scored.
“We stayed in our zone and worked on some things,” Greenfield head coach Bruce Wall said. “We didn’t pressure the ball.”
The Lady Knights are off until Thursday, Jan. 4, when they host DASH United.
