Caitlyn Barnes helped her Wilson Christian Academy varsity girls basketball team to a third-place finish in the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A tournament last week, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Caitlyn, a junior forward, averaged a little over 11 points per game as the Lady Chargers went 2-1 in the state tournament in Walkertown. WCA beat Monroe Tabernacle Christian in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual state champion Alamance Christian in the semifinals. The Lady Chargers then defeated Lexington Union Grove Christian in the third-place game.
Caitlyn has a 4.0 unweighted GPA at Wilson Christian, where he plays trumpet in the band and sings in the choir. She is a member of the school’s chapter of National Honor Society and is also on the WCA girls soccer, cross-country and shooting teams.
The daughter of Cathy and Chris Barnes of Rocky Mount, Caitlyn served as a House page for the North Carolina General Assembly last summer. She helps coach Upward Cheerleading and volunteers in the nursery at Peace Church in Wilson.
Caitlyn attended cross-country camp at N.C. State and basketball camp at Liberty last summer.
