Karsten Woodard helped his Wilson Preparatory Academy boys basketball team reach the finals of the Capital City Conference tournament last week, making him this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Karsten, a junior forward and Tigers co-captain, helped WPA, the Capital City East Conference regular-season champion in its first season at the varsity level, defeat Southern Wake Academy and Clayton Southside Christian before bowing to Durham Mount Zion Christian Academy in the championship game.

The son of Shawan and Daryl Woodard of Wilson, Karsten has a 4.08 weighted GPA at Wilson Prep, where is ranked No. 4 in the junior class. He will be part of the 4-year-old school’s first graduating class in 2019.

Karsten is vice president of the school’s chapter of National Honor Society and is a member of WPA’s Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also plays soccer for the Tigers.

Karsten was named to the North Carolina Music Educators Association all-state honors chorus.

He volunteers at Spring Arbor of Wilson assisted living facility and participates in church activities with his family.
