While the Wilson Tobs may have come a few wins shy of the Coastal Plain League’s Petitt Cup championship, staff member Robert Beare claimed his own title by being named the CPL Scorekeeper of the Year.

This was the first season that Beare, who is now a senior at UNC Wilmington, worked for the Tobs and the eighth season the CPL has honored the top scorekeeper.

“It’s truly an honor to receive this award,” Beare said. “To be recognized by my peers for everything I accomplished this summer is a great feeling and makes being a part of the Tobs and the Coastal Plain League that much more special.”

Beare’s duties included scoring each game and updating live stats on the team website, sending in game reports to the league office and box scores to media outs and ensuring that all Tobs statistics were correct on the CPL website.

He also assisted the Tobs media relations department, put together game program stats for fans and even designed and painted the baseball field logos at Fleming Stadium.

“It is an honor having a Tobs family member like Robert on board this summer and have no doubt in my mind that he has a great future in the world of sports,” said Tobs general manager Mike Bell.
