Thursday night’s Coastal Plain League game in Fleming stadium between the Wilson Tobs and the Asheboro Copperheads was canceled after three innings because of lightning.
The Tobs owned a 2-1 lead when rain and lightning halted play at the completion of the third inning. After continued lightning for approximately an hour, the game was called.
The cancellation was necessary because the Tobs and Asheboro are not scheduled to play one another the remainder of the season.
With a record of 2-3 in the North Division and 16-14 overall, the Tobs, first-half division winners, visit 2018 CPL champion Morehead City on Friday and Fayetteville on Saturday before welcoming Morehead City in Fleming Stadium at 6 p.m. Sunday. Morehead City and Fayetteville are East Division members.
The Copperheads of the West Division departed 3-3 the second half and 14-18 overall.
