MOREHEAD CITY — Mistakes took their toll for the Wilson Tobs for a second night in row against the Morehead City Marlins, a 5-3 winner in Coastal Plain League action Tuesday.

The Tobs held a 3-2 lead after four innings in Big Rock Stadium but the Marlins tied the score when Wilson starting pitcher Josh Arnold uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Ari Sechopoulos to score.

Morehead City’s Brendan Dougherty hammered a solo home run off Tobs reliever Waylon Ergle (0-1) for the decisive run in the bottom of the sixth and the Marlins added an insurance run in the eighth on a passed ball.

Caleb Dean had an RBI double in Wilson’s two0-run fourth, one of just four hits on the night for the Tobs.

Drew Brooks’ second-inning sacrifice fly scored Dudley Taw with Wilson’s first run.

Garrett Letchworth (2-0) got the win in relief for the Marlins, now with the CPL’s best record at 5-1.

The Tobs, who dropped to 2-3 with their third straight loss, will host North Division foe, the Edenton Steamers, on Thursday evening in Fleming Stadium. First pitch will be at 7.
