Sandra Homes, executive director of the Wilson Visitors Center, visited the call center at the N.C. Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh earlier this month to update the Women’s Call Center staff who answer the 1-800 VISIT NC telephone calls.

Homes provided information with updated events, promotional items and brochures on Wilson. Lunch from Parker’s Barbecue was provided to the call center staff.

Visit North Carolina call center distributes travel guides, N.C. Department of Transportation maps and other traveler information in partnership with the North Carolina commerce and transportation departments.

Assistance to prospective travelers looking for information about North Carolina is provided via 1-800-VISIT-NC.

Drew Baker, events, marketing and sports coordinator of the Wilson Visitors Center, accompanied Homes to share updates on Wilson events and upcoming festivals, such as Eyes on Main Street, and shared a presentation on the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park.

“The Wilson Visitors Center gives an update to the call center on an annual basis to inform the group of every detail about events and all the attractions in Wilson,” Homes said. “The call center answers questions to potential visitors in two shifts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and the phone calls received at the center are from all over the world.

“The call center is responsible for answering questions to potential visitors about all 100 counties across the state,” she said.
